Wayland Fire responded Thursday morning to a small brush fire off Stonebridge Road in the area of the aqueduct.
Thursday marked the third consecutive day Wayland and surrounding areas were under a Red Flag Warning due to dry conditions and a high outdoor fire risk. The Red Flag Warning means residents with outdoor burning permits are prohibited from burning Thursday.
Fire Capt. Robert Dorey said the call about the fire came in just after 6 a.m. Firefighters responded with an engine company and brush truck and were able to quickly contain the fire.

The fire affected about one acre and did not threaten any homes.
"We've been up there a number of times over the years,” Dorey said of the area to which they responded.

Dorey said the cause of the fire is unknown, but in such dry conditions a stray cigarette butt or even sunlight shining through a discarded glass bottle can cause dry leaves to smolder.
Firefighters were on the scene for just more than two hours. Dorey said they will continue to monitor the area throughout the day.
