Wayland High soccer coach David Gavron provided the update below.

Wayland Boys Soccer Team opened up the 2012 season with a tie to former DCL rival Tyngsboro.

Wayland struck first when junior Ben Caples scored on a free kick after Tyngsboro keeper Andy Savard handled the ball outside the penalty area. A quick thinking Caples placed the ball down and quickly restarted with a chip into the upper half of the goal.

Wayland held off a barrage by Tyngsboro, including a penalty kick that senior captain Matt Edwards stifled. However, it was Tyngsboro who struck last with a little under four minutes remaining in the game.

Junior Paul Sickinger sneaked by the Wayland defense after a misplayed ball and was able to poke the ball past Edwards, tying the game.

Wayland's record now stands at 0-0-1. Wayland travels to Lincoln-Sudbury on Tuesday for a DCL crossover game.
