Wayland High School Girls Complete Self Defense Training With PD

All Junior grade girls in Wayland High School were given the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland High School's junior grade girls finished a different kind of class at their school. The Wayland Police Department offered the junior class of girls Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training.

The girls were equip with suits that included headgear, knee pads and chest protectors, to practice self-defense. The Wayland High School Parent Organization donated funds that were used to buy the twenty-five student suits.

"These funds and suits will ensure that for years to come, those that are involved in the RAD program will have quality, comfortable protection when involved in this program," the department wrote on Facebook.

The program was done in conjunction with the Wayland High School teachers and staff.

Shown in the photos are students from Wayland High School, who just completed their RAD program along with Detective Sergeant Jamie D. Berger, Officer Mark Hebert, Youth Officer Shane Bowles, Detective Tyler Castagno, Officer Chris Hanlon, Officer Lynnet Sloan, Officer Kristen Oberlander and Wellness Instructor Scott Parseghian.
