Wayland Hosting Months Of Suffrage Centennial Events
Wayland will mark the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment with a host of events beginning in January.

WAYLAND, MA — Several months of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage will begin in Wayland on Jan. 24. Women in the U.S. were granted the right to vote when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified on Aug. 18, 1920.
Here's a rundown of everything scheduled in Wayland this winter and spring:
- Jan. 24, 10 a.m. to noon "Suppressed: The Fight to Vote" Wayland Public Library
- Feb. 6, 9:15 a.m. Council on Aging trip to Museum of Fine Arts for "Women Take the Floor/Women on the Move" exhibit
- Feb. 10 Board of Selectmen resolution recognizing the establishment of the League of Women Voters on Feb. 14, 1920
- Feb. 10 Wayland Town Clerk display on the first registered women voters in Wayland
- Feb. 10, 1 p.m. “The Trial of Susan B. Anthony” from the Liberty On Trial In America Great Course lectures series via the Council On Aging
- March 8, 2 p.m. League of Women Voters Civics Bee, Lincoln-Sudbury High School
- March 11, 7 p.m. "Left on Pearl" film screening with executive producer Susan Jacoby, Wayland Public Library
- March 23, 7:30 p.m. at the Wayland Public Library Professor Allison Lange forthcoming book talk, "Picturing Political Power: Images in the Women's Suffrage Movement"
- March 26, 1:30 p.m. "I Now Pronounce You Lucy Stone," History At Play production: Lucy Stone, abolitionist, suffragist and strong advocate of equal rights describes the tension of Antebellum Boston in this fiery presentation. Via the Council On Aging
- March 26, 7:30 p.m. book lecture "Picturing Political Power" with Professor Allison Lange, Wayland Public Library
- April 23 Council on Aging trip to the Kennedy Institute, Citizens Fight for Women's Suffrage
- May 3, Voices of the Centennial at Wayland High School
