Wayland Man Drowns While on Vacation in Adirondack Mountains

The well-known Dale Calverley died while swimming in Buttermilk Falls in New York.

Referring to him as the “Fix It Clown,” a great friend, mentor and family guy, condolences flooded the Facebook page of Dale Calverley this past week as friends and family heard the news.

The Wayland man, who leaves behind three children and his wife, Jen, drowned while on vacation in New York last weekend.

Calverley, who was 50, was swimming with his family on Aug. 17 at the base of Buttermilk Falls in the Raquette River, Adirondack Mountains, when he was spotted lying face down in the river, said New York State Police.

EMTs were unable to revive him. His death was ruled to be accidental.

Last summer, a Buffalo man died after being pinned down by the current, and crews pulled him from the Raquette River hours later, according to WIVB-TV.
