WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will hold the town's traditional Memorial Day parade for the first time this year since 2019. The town postponed the parade over the last two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The May 30 parade will step off from Wayland Middle School and travel along Route 27 and Route 30 and end at Lakeview Cemetery in the Cochituate area. Former Wayland public works employee and Marine veteran Jack Barry will be the 2022 grand marshal.

At Lakeview Cemetery, 80 Commonwealth Road, a remembrance ceremony will honor soldiers who died at war. Purple Heart recipient and retired Navy officer Richard Turner will serve as master of ceremonies, and the keynote address will be given by Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine Col. Troy Morton. There will also be a special dedication to commemorate the American Legion Post 133’s 100th anniversary.

This year’s patriotic music program will be performed by The Wayland High School and middle school bands and singer Victoria Gitten will provide music.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. and will last about 30 minutes. In case of rain, the parade will not happen and a ceremony in the Wayland Middle School gym will replace it. For those who can't attend live, the ceremony will be broadcast on WayCAM.
