Wayland Officers Don Old Badges to Celebrate 100 Years

Starting next year, Wayland officers will wear 1916 replica badges.

WAYLAND, MA -- Beginning on Jan. 1st all Wayland Police Officers will begin wearing a replica badge from 1916 in recognition of 100 years of policing in Wayland.

Wayland employed its first full time police chief in 1916. Edward F. Dorsheimer (pictured) served as the police chief from 1916 until his death in 1929. Prior to that, part time police constables were employed to keep the peace.

All officers will wear the badge during the anniversary year. The Wayland Police Association provided funding for the badges.
