Wayland Open Burning Permits Available Online
Obtaining open burning permits can be done online.

Open burning season begins Jan. 15, and Wayland residents looking to take advantage can obtain their permits online.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regulates open burning in the Commonwealth and local fire departments handle enforcement.
Last year, the Wayland Fire Department began allowing residents to apply for permits via the department's webpage on the town's website. A press release from Wayland Fire Chief Bob Loomer said the first year was a success and the online process will continue for this burning season.

"After a successful permit registration, we believe you will find the online system an easy way to obtain and use your open burning permit," the press release reads.
Using the online system, residents can apply for a permit and also check whether they are allowed to burn on a given day. The open burning season in 2012 runs from Jan. 15-May 1, but even after obtaining a permit, residents are required to check whether the conditions are safe for burning each day. The online system will provide that information when residents enter their permit number on the day they intend to burn.

While residents are encouraged to use the online system, those without computer access can call (508) 358-4747 to obtain a permit.
There is no cost for open burning permits, and a permit is required for all outdoor burning.
