WATCH: Wayland PD Creates Safe Internet Purchase Exchange
The Police Department has created a monitored area at the station where people can meet who are buying from others off the Internet.

Now, when you agree to purchase an item from someone on Craigslist or Facebook yard sales, you’ve got a safe place to meet for the exchange.
Chief Robert Irving announced that the Wayland Police Department has established an “Internet Purchase Exchange Location” in the parking lot of the Wayland Public Safety Building on Millbrook Road.
“As more and more commerce is conducted over the internet, we felt it important for us to establish a safe zone where transactions can be completed,” Chief Irving said in a statement. “In most cases, the buyers and sellers of items bought and sold over internet sites such as Craigslist and Facebook yard sales, do not know each other. Now these transactions can be completed in the parking lot of the Public Safety Building or in the main lobby. The area is under twenty-four hour video surveillance.”

The idea for the safe zone came from several other Massachusetts police departments that have already set up exchange locations at their departments. Anyone is welcome to use the Internet Purchase Exchange Location at the Wayland Public Safety Building.
