Wayland Reaches Agreement with Town and School Unions

The agreement makes changes to the health insurance plans offered to employees and non-Medicare retirees.

WAYLAND, MA—The Wayland Board of Selectmen recently announce that it has reached agreement with town and school unions to make substantive changes to the health insurance plans offered to employees and non-Medicare retirees.

The collaborative agreement, which introduces new plan designs that include front end deductibles for certain services, becomes effective Jan.1, 2017. The agreement remains in place through June 30, 2019.

This agreement allows the town to continue as a member of the West Suburban Health Group and defers discussion on a move to the State’s Group Insurance Commission, said the announcement. Employees and non-Medicare retirees will receive $450,000 in mitigation through June 30, 2019. The Board of Selectmen projected a net savings of $2,000,000 in health care costs through June 30, 2020, without making adjustments for medical inflation to insurance premiums.
