Wayland Resident Runs In Road Race For Brain Aneurysm Foundation

WAYLAND, MA—Wayland resident John Matosky is lacing up to run the 46th annual New Balance Falmouth Road Race on Aug. 19 in memory of his father Edward Matosky who passed away from a ruptured aneurysm in 1991.

Matosky runs as a member of a 13-member charity team to support the Brain Aneurysm Foundation’s (BAF) efforts to raise awareness, education, support, advocacy and research funding.

Edward was 52 when he collapsed in the front yard while raking leaves, a passing motorist discovering him. He was in the ICU for three days before he passed away and son Matosky was just 17 at the time.

Matosky discovered the BAF through its annual Arterial Challenge, a walk/run at Fenway Park.

“Thirty-thousand people will suffer from a ruptured brain aneurysm, and nearly 40-percent of those ruptures are fatal,” said Matosky in a statement. “Not only am I running to honor my father’s memory, but also to raise money and awareness for the BAF’s efforts to promote early detection, improved patient outcomes, and support for affected families.”

More than 11,000 runners participate in The New Balance Falmouth Road Race, a seven-mile course which starts in Woods Hole, wraps along the Falmouth shoreline and finishes in Falmouth Heights.
