Wayland ZBA Vacancies: Town Seeks Volunteers

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland is searching for two volunteers who can serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals — an important board that makes important decisions about development in Wayland.

The Town of Wayland invites residents who wish to serve their community to apply to become a volunteer member of the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).

The ZBA is comprised of five full members and three associate members. There are currently openings for a full member and an associate member.

The ZBA interprets zoning by-laws and determines whether relief from these by-laws is warranted. Members meet monthly for public meetings to make decisions regarding applications for:

  • Alterations or extensions of pre-existing, non-conforming structures or lots
  • Appeals of the decisions of the Building Inspector
  • Comprehensive permits
  • Special permits
  • Variances from zoning regulations

Members of the board make every effort to consider the opinions of the petitioners, their neighbors, and interested Town entities.

Preference will be given to applicants who are familiar with zoning regulations, building requirements, and architectural components, have a legal background in real estate, or have the ability to read plans and interpret regulations.
