Wayland To Set 2022 Tax Rates In December

Residents can attend a hearing on the proposed new tax rates on Dec. 6.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland residents will get a chance to give input on 2022 tax rates at an upcoming Board of Selectmen meeting.

On Dec. 6, the Selectmen will meet to set the tax rates to raise enough money to pay for town and school services. Wayland typically elects to maintain a single tax rate across all properties. Some larger communities, like Framingham, split tax rates so that commercial and industrial properties pay a larger share of taxes.

In 2020, Wayland raised the single tax rate to $18.52 per $1,000 of assessed value up from $17.76 in 2019. Tax rates can still rise even if the town sets a lower rate, however, due to rising property values. In 2020, the bill for a home of average value in Wayland — about $800,000 — paid a tax bill of $14,818, the highest in a decade.
