Wayland Upgrades Water Ban, Effective Immediately
Dry weather is prompting an even stricter water ban in the area. Know when to sprinkle.

WAYLAND, MA—Know when to sprinkle. The extensive drought is causing many communities to implement a water ban. Wayland on Wednesday upgraded its ban. Here are the details.
Effective immediately, the Wayland Water Division is upgrading its level of water use restriction to the following:
- Odd numbered houses can water on Mondays and Thursdays (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- Even numbered houses can water on Tuesdays and Fridays (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- No lawn watering via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is allowed on Saturday, Sunday, or Wednesdays.
- Handheld Hose: Handheld hose watering is not restricted and is allowed on all days
From the Water Division: "Our Water System is currently keeping up with water system demand. We are currently pumping 2.4 million gallons of water per day which is very close to our maximum pumping capacity. The increased Water Use Restriction is a proactive step to reduce Irrigation related Water System demands. We believe that limiting outdoor irrigation to 4 specific days per week (down from 7 days per week) will allow our water storage tank to fill and also give the wells a chance to recover during this period of drought. The increase in water use restrictions is vital to ensure the supply of potable drinking water and to provide water for fire protection."
