Pam Washek, after being stricken with cancer in 2002, laid the roots of the Neighbor Brigade, forming the "Wayland Angels" as a "pay it forward" type group that performed acts of kindness to neighbors during cancer treatment. In 2010, the Wayland Angels incorporated into the formal nonprofit Neighbor Brigade, which has multiple chapters.
