West Suburban YMCA Opens Camp Chickami Lodge In Wayland
The Newtown Y's expansion at Camp Chickami in Wayland will allow the facility to keep up with growth.
WAYLAND, MA — Local officials gathered Monday to celebrate the opening of a new lodge at Camp Chickami in Wayland, which will serve campers from the West Suburban YMCA in Newton.
The "Loch Lodge" is named for Watertown educator Jim “Loch” Lochiatto, who has been involved with the camp for 40 summers, according to the YMCA.
The new lodge will allow the camp to keep up with extensive growth over the years. The camp opened in 1955 along the Boston Post Road with capacity for about 300 campers, but the enrollment is nearly double that now.
The lodge, built by Commodore Builders in Waltham, will house administrative offices, a nurse’s station, restrooms and a multipurpose space for rainy days.
