180 Losing Jobs With AstraZeneca Closing

The Westborough plant is closing its doors.

After being located in Westborough for 33 years, AstraZeneca is closing its plant next year, and with the closing, some 180 will lose their jobs, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

The facility produced Pulmicort, a children’s asthma medication, but has laid off thousands since restricting in 2004. At that time, Westborough’s AstraZeneca had 850 employees.

The plant will fully close by the end of next year, but some jobs will be eliminated in March, said the Telegram, which noted that AstraZeneca is Westborough’s largest taxpayer.
