$200 Charge Proposed For Leaving Trash on Public Way

Those not paying the $200 'within a reasonable time' would face a $200 lien on their property by the town, Walden suggested.

Those leaving trash on Westborough's public ways should pick up $200 charge if they don't remove it within 24 hours of being told, Public Works Manager John Walden says.

A couch was left on Fay Street for two days this past week, and "I have seen situations where they have been there for 2 weeks," Walden told selectmen Tuesday in a memo.

Walden proposed Westborough adopting a town bylaw requiring residents or homeowners to remove their trash from public ways within 24 hours of being notified, or face being charged $200 for the town to remove it.

Those not paying the $200 "within a reasonable time" would face a $200 lien on their property by the town, he suggested.

Selectmen discussed the issue Tuesday. The sofa was moved to the garage area at 5 Fay St. by the time Westborough Patch visited the neighborhood early Wednesday afternoon.
