5 Things to Know Today: Feb. 9

It was 47 years ago today that American pop culture felt an earthquake, and the British Invasion was officially underway.

1. A free hour of children’s entertainment begins at 10 a.m. at on Lyman Street. Storytime with Miss Tina takes place in the event room.

2. Today marks the 47th anniversary of the British Invasion. The Ed Sullivan Show appearance by The Beatles on Feb. 9, 1964 is marked as the start of a new generation of music. The group performed 5 songs before an estimated television audience of 73 million people.

3. The Westborough School Committee meets at 6 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Forbes Municipal Building. This is the rescheduled Feb. 2 meeting, which was postponed due to snow.

4. Today is National Stop Bullying Day. The nonprofit group Hey UGLY (Unique Gifted Lovable You) started the holiday to encourage schools and families to discuss the topic and design activities that promote self-esteem and help to eradicate bullying.
