6 Accidents Wednesday Morning: 5 on Route 9 Within a Quarter of a Mile Apart

One crash involved a tire blowout that knocked over a pole, which fell into the road and started a fire.

Westborough police responded to six crashes between 6-8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13.

According to police, the first happened at 6:02 a.m. on Route 9 west at the Windsor Ridge Apartments, at which a 2012 Toyota Camry operated by Markendy Frederique, 24, 238 Beacon St., Framingham, blew out a tire. His car skidded off the road and hit a utility pole, knocking the pole onto the street, which resulted in a fire along the wooded area near the road. Route 9W was shut down for 45 minutes. Frederique was transported by Westborough fire to UMass for minor injuries.

A second accident happened at 7:20 a.m. directly across the street from the first accident, and it involved three vehicles with no injuries.

And at 7:25 a.m., a third accident happened on Route 9W, approximately a quarter of a mile from the first accident. This involved two cars, and there were no injuries.

The fourth accident on Wednesday happened also on Route 9 west, at 8:05 a.m., in the same area, about one quarter of a mile from the first. This also involved two cars, and there were no injuries.

At 8:18 a.m., a fifth accident occurred on Flanders Road at Longmeadow Road. There were no injuries in this two-car crash.

Westborough police responded to a sixth accident at 8:27 a.m. on Route 9 east at Gerardo’s Bakery, where two cars crashed, and there were no injuries.
