6th Graders Dominate Westborough Lions Peace Poster Contest
Mill Pond School's Emily Chen Wins 1st Place!
Emily Chen and Abigail Watkins, both sixth grade students at the Mill Pond School in Westborough, were the winner and first runner up respectively in this year's Westborough Lions Club Peace Poster Contest. The students are shown in the photos above with their winning entries. Lion Susan Ash was this year's Peace Poster Contest Chairperson. The poster theme was: Journey of Peace. Students were required to depict this theme using no words or lettering. In describing her thoughts on peace, Emily stated that 'Peace can be shared, peace can be split, but peace should be circulating around the world all day, every day'. Both girls received a cash award and a certificate honoring their participation in this year's contest.
The Westborough Lions Club Peace Poster Contest is just the first step in the Lions International Peace Poter Contest that is held each year. Winning local entries move on to the District, then State, then International Contest, where the winner recieves $5,000 and attends an awards ceremony at the United Nations in New York City. Students ages 11 through 13 are eligible to participate. The Peace Poster Contest is just one of many activities the Lions host to promote postive Youth Development in their communities.
The Westborough Lions Club is very proud of these talented young artists and would like to thank all of the students who participated in this year's contest! To learn more about the Westborough Lions Club, please visit westboroughlionsclub.org.
