After Vandalism, Westborough Ice Sculpture Fundraiser Called Off
The Westborough Athletic and Social Association fundraiser revolved around guessing when an ice sculpture would melt.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A local fundraiser for Westborough student-athletes has been called off after someone vandalized an ice sculpture at the center of the event.
Over the weekend, an ice sculpture at the center of the Westborough Athletic and Social Association's second-annual Ice-Out event was found damaged at Hastings Elementary School, according to the organization. The fundraiser allows locals to place bets on when the massive ice sculpture will melt for a cash prize, with the remaining proceeds going back to WASA.
"On Sunday Feb. 5, the WASA Ice Sculpture at Hastings School was vandalized. A report has been filed with Westboro PD. The Ice Out Challenge has unfortunately been discontinued," WASA said on its website.

The Ice-Out event began in mid-January with contestants paying a $5 entry fee. WASA said it will refund participants, but is still accepting donations in lieu of the contest on its website.
Founded in 1935, WASA has been providing college scholarships to Westborough student-athletes for decades. The group hosts other fundraising events throughout the year, including an annual food drive, turkey shoot and golf tournament.
