Aisha Ali Wins Westborough Lions Youth Speech

Aisha Ali, a Westborough High School Senior, took first place in the Westborough Lions Club's Youth Speech Contest this year. The event was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Doubletree by Hilton in Westborough. There were five contestants including Aisha. In addition, Veronica Njuguna, also a Senior, competed in the contest, as did Junior Karen Samuel, and Freshmen Shobhana Ramesh kumar Jayachitra and Sri Suktha Thabati. The speech topic was The Best Advice You Ever Received Was... The speeches were to be five and eight minutes in length. Three independent judges critiqued the speeches on Delivery, Effectiveness, and Text. Aisha was the student who received the most first place finishes as determined by the judges. She now moves on to the Region 1 Contest in Mendon on January 8th, where she will compete against the winners of the Harvard, Grafton, and Uxbridge Lions Clubs. We wish Aisha much luck as she moves on to the Region level contest. Should she win that, she would move on to the District 33A Contest in February, encompassing all the club winners in Worcester County. That winner then moves on the the State of MA Contest in the spring.

The Westborough Lions Club and the students were all honored that State of Massachusetts Representative, Kate Donaghue, attended the event. She shared some of the 'Best Advice' she had ever been given to the students. It was a fun, enriching evening for all!
