The Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) is proud to announce it has awarded $155,000 in grants to 44 animal shelters, rescue organizations, and animal control programs across the state. Funded through sales of the Massachusetts “Pet Plate” License Plate Program, these grants support critical efforts to provide low-cost spay and neuter services to dogs, cats and rabbits in shelters and homes throughout Massachusetts.

By expanding access to affordable spay and neuter care, MAC and its partners are directly addressing pet overpopulation and improving animal welfare across the region. These services not only prevent unwanted litters but also help reduce the number of animals entering already crowded shelters.

“Everyone loves their pets. With the rising cost of veterinary care, many families face difficult choices when it comes to caring for their dogs, cats, and bunnies,” said Anne Lindsay, MAC’s president and founder. “These grants help ensure that more shelters and families can access services, with the goal of reducing the number of animals entering shelters.”

Spaying and neutering has a profound and lasting impact. It prevents unwanted litters, decreases the number of stray and homeless animals in our communities, and eases the burden on shelters and animal control programs. It also provides a cost-effective solution for families who may otherwise struggle with the expense of unexpected litters.

Administered by MAC, the Pet Plate Program provides critical funding each year to organizations that demonstrate the ability to deliver accessible spay and neuter services. To date, MAC has distributed more than $3.5 million to support these efforts across Massachusetts.

“Spaying and neutering saves lives—today and for generations to come,” Lindsay said.

For those looking to help, the solution can be as simple as choosing a license plate. Learn more or order at www.petplate.org.
