WESTBOROUGH, MA — An Ashland woman was arraigned in Westborough District Court on Friday in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash on Route 9 in Southborough earlier this year, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
Abigail Throckmorton, 23, faces charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving the wrong way on a state highway, marked lanes violation and speeding.
The charges stem from a Feb. 20 crash on Turnpike Road (Route 9 East) that killed 37-year-old Crystal Johnson Clementi.
Southborough police said officers and first responders were called to the scene around 3 a.m. regarding a serious two-vehicle crash. Investigators later determined Throckmorton’s vehicle had allegedly been traveling the wrong way before the collision.
Clementi, who was driving the other vehicle, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Throckmorton was released on personal recognizance with conditions that she not operate a motor vehicle, remain drug- and alcohol-free with random screenings and stay in Massachusetts.
The case was continued to June 30 for a pretrial conference.
The crash remains under investigation by the Southborough Police Department, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
