WESTBOROUGH, MA — A food drive organized by a Westborough nonprofit brought in hundreds of pounds of food and thousands of dollars for the Westborough Food Pantry.
The Westborough Athletic and Social Association raised more than 830 lbs. of food and $4,115 for the Westborough Food Pantry, the pantry announced on Tuesday.
The donations will support the pantry’s work serving Westborough residents in need. The organization says that it provides food for more than 150 Westborough families, or more than 450 people, each week.
WASA has supported Westborough youth since 1935 through academic, athletic and community initiatives.
The group's annual food drive is part of its effort to support local organizations, with the Westborough Food Pantry among its top community priorities.
"It is inspirational for WASA to serve as an annual conduit for the Westborough community and receive thousands of pounds of food to support those in our community that are less fortunate," WASA wrote on its website. The organization works with local grocery stores, such as Roche Brothers and Stop & Shop, to ask patrons to pick up needed supplies.
The Westborough Food Pantry says town-wide food drives sponsored by groups, including WASA, bring in about 15,000 pounds of donated food each year, according to its website.
