WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough has received state approval to use space in the town’s community building for future elections, a move town officials said could be in place by the fall.

Town Manager Kristi Williams told the Select Board on Tuesday that she, Town Clerk Debbie Ledoux and Assistant Town Manager Kim Foster recently met with a representative from the Massachusetts Elections Division to tour the lower level of the community building as part of the approval process.

Williams said the town now has approval and that the timeline still points to September, which she said would leave enough time to hold Westborough’s November election there.

Williams said the town is continuing to work with the library and its owner’s project manager to stay updated on the construction timeline.

“As of now they’re still thinking September, which would give us plenty of time to have our November elections there,” Williams told the Select Board Tuesday.

Massachusetts’ state election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. The town's most recent annual town election, on Mar. 10, was held at the Westborough High School gym.

If Westborough changes its voting location, the Town Clerk will have to notify voters in line with state requirements, Williams said.
