WESTBOROUGH, MA — Lake Chauncy Beach will undergo its annual chemical treatment next week as part of Westborough’s effort to control invasive weeds and algae.
Solitude Lake Management will apply the treatment Wednesday, Jun. 10, to control Eurasian water milfoil and algae outbreaks, according to a notice from Westborough Recreation Director Jenn Kirkland. The work is being done under a state Department of Environmental Protection permit and an order of conditions from the Westborough Conservation Commission.
The town said chemical treatments have been used at Lake Chauncy Beach since the early 1990s, previously through Aquatic Control Technologies. Without the annual treatments, weeds in the swim area would become dense enough to make the area unsafe and unusable, according to the notice.
As a precaution, residents and abutters are advised to avoid certain uses of lake water following the Jun. 10 treatment. Fishing, swimming, boating and livestock watering should resume Jun. 11, according to the notice. Drinking or domestic water use should resume on Jun. 13, and irrigation use on Jun. 15.
