WESTBOROUGH, MA — A Westborough organization will take its message about buying local to consumers across Massachusetts with support from a new agricultural grant.
Mass Farmers Markets in Westborough received $73,028 for a coordinated campaign encouraging shoppers to purchase locally grown produce at farmers markets, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced last week.
MFM is a non-profit organization that supports, trains, and promotes farmers' markets across the state.
The campaign will use cohesive branding and advertising across social media, radio, print and online platforms. Mass Farmers Markets will also provide digital materials to market managers and other food system partners for use in their own promotions.
The award is part of $403,500 distributed to six Massachusetts agricultural organizations through the federal Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service funds the program, which is administered in Massachusetts by the state Department of Agricultural Resources.
Specialty crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticultural products and nursery crops, including flowers. Other funded projects will support cranberry research, flower growers, greenhouse tomato production, native plants and agricultural soil improvements.
