WESTBOROUGH, MA — The Westborough Police Department and one of its sergeants received recognition for their work to improve safety on local roads.
Sgt. Chris Atchue received the AAA Traffic Safety Hero Award while the department earned the AAA Gold Traffic Safety Award, police announced on Tuesday. The department credited the recognition to Atchue's dedication and its continued traffic enforcement, education and community engagement efforts.
The 2026 AAA Community Traffic Safety Awards recognize work performed by police departments and officers during the past year, according to the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association. The program includes a Traffic Safety Hero category specifically for police department members.
This is Westborough's second consecutive Gold Traffic Safety Award. The department also received the honor in 2019 and 2025, when Lt. Clifford Luce was named a Community Traffic Safety Hero for his leadership in crash investigation, emergency response and safety planning, Patch previously reported.
Westborough's fiscal 2027 budget shows that the department secured a $20,323 state traffic safety grant for enforcement, education and equipment. It also received $1,709 for child passenger safety outreach, according to town budget documents.
