WESTBOROUGH, MA — The polls officially closed at 8 p.m. in the Massachusetts State Election.
State Rep. Kate Donaghue secured another term in the 19th Worcester District House Seat, according to election results from AP reported by WCVB. The Democrat was the only candidate listed in the race.
The district includes all or parts of Framingham, Northborough, Southborough and Westborough. Donaghue was the only candidate listed in the race.
Election-night totals are unofficial and remain subject to local certification, according to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Donaghue, who is from Westborough, has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2023. She grew up in Quincy and has called Westborough home for 52 years.
Before entering politics, she spent nearly 40 years working as a software engineer and five years as a medical technologist. She holds master's degrees in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and medical technology from Northeastern University.
Donaghue told Patch that affordability is one of the biggest challenges facing Massachusetts families, particularly rising housing and energy costs.
Her priorities include expanding affordable housing, improving access to health care, addressing climate change and supporting public education, including universal pre-K.
Donaghue has also emphasized substance use disorder treatment and support for family caregivers, issues she said are deeply personal following the death of her son from an opioid overdose in 2018 and her husband from cancer in 2021.
