Last week, the Board of Selectmen officially approved the promotion of Captain Patrick Purcell to the new Westborough Fire Department Chief.
With 15 applying for the job, Purcell was one of two finalists, with Captain Robert Rand also interviewing, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
In Monday night’s Special Town Meeting, voters decided to keep the “strong chief law,” which is one where the fire chief operates independent of contracts.
