Country Club's Greens Getting Thumbs Up
The 9 hole par 36 public course hosts its Opening Day 18-hole scramble this Saturday.
The Westborough Country Club’s greens are getting thumbs up as the course prepares for Saturday’s Opening Day 18-hole scramble.
“Most of the players have been commenting on how good the greens are right now for this early in the season, how fast they are,” said PGA Golf Pro Jack Negoshian, starting his 26th year at the 9 hole par 36 public course at 121 West Main St.
“Most people figure with the winter we had, it wouldn’t be in as good a condition as it is.”

Saturday’s tournament had 64 players signed up as of Tuesday morning, Negoshian said. The tournament may have 72 players, which is “a full field for us for a nine-hole course,” he said.
“It’s just a fun tournament that people play in,” Negoshian said.

The course opened a few weeks ago with seven holes, and opened the rest in early April, he said.
“It held up extremely well through the winter,” Negoshian said.
“Sometimes, the more snow covering you have, it’s not that drastic. Plus, we cover our greens for the winter. That makes a difference if you get any ice. But, that wasn’t a problem this year.”
Joining also isn’t a problem this year.
Memberships for residents and non-residents are available, Negoshian said.
“Over the last few years, we’ve been losing members. Usually, the members that don’t rejoin they figured they didn’t play enough golf to make their membership worthwhile,” he said.
