Donaghue Secures Democratic Nomination In 19th Worcester District

WESTBOROUGH, MA — State Rep. Kate Donaghue secured the Democratic nomination for another term Tuesday in the 19th Worcester District.

Donaghue was unopposed on the Democratic ballot and the Secretary of the Commonwealth listed no Republican nominee. She secured the Democratic nomination after the polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to Associated Press results reported by the Boston Globe.

The district includes most of Westborough, Northborough precincts 1 through 3, all of Southborough and Framingham Precinct 21A.

Donaghue, a Westborough Democrat, has served in the House since 2023.

Her legislative work has focused in part on mental health and substance use treatment. Current bills filed under her name address behavioral health coverage, addiction treatment access, opioid stewardship and discharge practices at treatment programs, according to her official legislative record.

Her campaign biography says she became an advocate for addiction treatment after her son died of an overdose in 2018. It also cites her work in open-space preservation and her service on advisory groups focused on opioid policy and patient care.

Donaghue has also worked with local officials on housing and municipal matters. In 2025, she sought clarification from the state about affordability requirements for state land considered for housing in Westborough, according to town records.

Polls closed at 8 p.m. Election-night totals are unofficial and remain subject to local certification, according to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
