Erica Sato Wins Lions District 33A Peace Poster Contest
Gibbons Middle School Student Now Vies for State Prize
Erica Sato, an 8th grade student at Gibbons Middle School in Westborough, has won not only the local, Westborough Lions Peace Poster Contest, but also the Lions District 33A (central MA) contest as well! The competition is a part of the Lions International Peace Poster Contest that takes place each year. Thousands of students from all over the world create a poster with a specific theme regarding peace. This year’s poster theme was 'Lead with Compassion'. Erica’s poster was chosen as the best representation of that theme over all of the entries from over forty Lions Clubs in central MA. Her poster moves on to the State Contest on December 15th.
State level winning posters proceed to the international contest on February 1st. The winner of the international contest wins a $5,000 prize and a trip to the United Nations award ceremony. An additional 23 Merit Award winners will receive $500 and a certificate of achievement. We wish Erica much luck as she moves on in the contest!
In addition to Erica, Abhiram Ayodhya, also an 8th grader at Gibbons Middle School, took second place in the local Westborough Lions contest. A special third place prize was awarded to Simran Kumar, a 6th grader at the Mill Pond School, for her depiction of 'Lead with Compassion' using a series of bunny vignettes.
