Fallen Tree In Westborough Causes Fire, Outage, Road Closure

The West Main Street incident happened amid a windy, rainy storm moving through Massachusetts.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A tree fell across power lines in Westborough during a storm early Friday, sparking a fire, knocking out power and closing roads.

The Westborough Fire Department reported the incident around 7 a.m. along West Main Street. Due to the downed lines, West Main was closed between Kay and Adams streets, according to the police department.

According to National Grid, about 150 people in Westborough were without power as of 10 a.m. Friday, down from 1,000 earlier in the morning. The utility was on scene along West Main working on the downed lines.

The storm moving across Massachusetts will continue to bring rain and wind throughout the day, followed by a possible flash freeze overnight into Saturday as temperatures drop.
