Former State Board of Education Chairman Mary Ellen Smith Remembered

Mary Ellen Smith of Walpole died Sept. 16, 2012 after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late Francis B. Smith and Mary R. (Fouhy) Smith of Belmont. She was preceded in death by her spouse Jane Morrison Margulis. She is survived by her devoted siblings, Francis B. Smith of Easton, David J. Smith of Newton, Martha Smith Marston of Needham, Maureen Smith Horgan of Westborough, and Brig. Gen. Paul Gregory Smith of Ashburnham, and by her stepchildren, Mark Margulis of Lowell, Neal Margulis of San Diego, Calif., Penny Smith of Framingham, and Amy DiClemente of Longwood, FL. She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mrs. Smith was the former chairman of the Massachusetts State Board of Education.

Stephen Dymek, 66, of Framingham died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Oak Knoll Healthcare Center, Framingham. He was the husband of 42 years to Penny (Brown) Dymek of Framingham.
Born in Alfield, Germany, he was the son of the late Stefan and Janina (Gromcheska) Dymek.
Mr. Dymek worked over 20 years as an electrical engineer for Raytheon.
Besides his wife Penny, he is survived by his children, Christi Tarzia and her husband Bill of Westborough and Mike Dymek and his wife Jeni of Wellesley. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kaitlyn and A.J. Tarzia both of Westborough, Abby and Evan Dymek, both of Wellesley, and many nieces and nephews.
