Ruth Mary (Angevine) Caie died Aug. 8, at age 103, one month before her 104th birthday, at Meadow Green Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Waltham, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Rochester, N.H., Sept. 13, 1908, and married Thomas Arthur Caie of Berlin, N.H., in 1930. Ruth and her husband lived in Waltham for many years prior to moving to Lexington. Arthur died in 1982, after 51 years of marriage. Ruths father, John J. Angevine, died in 1918, at the age of 38, as a result of the influenza epidemic when Ruth was 10 years old. Her mother, Ella (Robins) Angevine, married Owen Dexter, two years later. In addition to her father, stepfather, mother and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Sadie in 1913, at age 2, and in 2001 by her brother Wallace Angevine of California, formerly of Rochester. Ruth is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Gerald Hathorne of Norwell, and Priscilla and David Eagle of Lexington and Falmouth. She was Grammie to four granddaughters and one grandson and their spouses, Sandra and Robert Mazaika of Hopkinton, Susan and David Reynolds of Westboro, Sharon and Gregory Wall of Rockland, Cynthia and William Fitzpatrick of Newton, and Jeffrey and Heidi Eagle of Coto de Caza, Calif. She was also a great-grandmother, GiGi, to eight, Bryan and Carly Mazaika, Carter and Austin Reynolds, Bradley Wall, Liam Fitzpatrick, and Matthew and Gregory Eagle. Survivors also include her half-sister, Shirley (Dexter) Moore of Florida, formerly of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and their families. Ruth was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, reading, and cooking. When her daughters became involved in Girl Scouts, Ruth became a Scout leader. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked for ten years in the credit department of Parke Snow in Waltham. After her husbands retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Stuart, Fla., and spent many summers in Ocean Park, Maine, where Ruth continued to vacation into her 90s. Ruth was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Waltham for over 50 years and then became a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church (UCC) of Lexington. She served as a volunteer for FISH, scheduling rides for people needing transportation. For the past four years, Ruth called Meadow Green home. The family thanks the nurses, staff, therapists, and Dr. Gerald Harris for the loving care and respect they gave to Ruth. As a bright and able woman who cared for herself, she looked forward to attending the many daily activities and dining with her friend Josephine Caminitti. Ruth always enjoyed being kept current with news of her family and friends. A private service will be held at a later date at the Douglass Funeral Home in Lexington. Visiting hours are omitted. Committal will be in the Caie family plot in Gorham, N.H. If desired, donations in Ruths memory may be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church (UCC), 55 Coolidge Ave., Lexington, MA 02420, and would be appreciated.
