Several Water Sources in Schools Test High for Copper, Lead: Westborough Schools

Some water sources at Westborough schools tested above acceptable levels for copper and lead. Water was shut off where it exceeded levels.

WESTBOROUGH, MA—The town recently release the results of the testing of drinking water at Westborough Schools. Several schools had water sources, such as bubblers and classroom faucet, that tested in excess of the action level for copper or lead. The tests were taken in September and October.

The action level for lead is any result greater than 0.015 mg/l. The action level for copper is any result greater than 1.3 mg/l.

All actionable drinking water locations have been shut down until a protocol is put in place and tested to ensure the drinking water from these locations is within the acceptable standards for copper and lead, said the announcement.

Gibbons school was not tested because of ongoing construction. Drinking water sources within Gibbons will be tested for copper and lead once renovations are complete.
