Westborough’s got a new program that pairs residents who are able to shovel with those who can’t. The new “Snow Angels” program matches able-bodied residents to senior citizens in town who struggle with finances, physical challenges or both.

Town Manager Jim Malloy came up with the idea in 2011, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, and it was approved recently by Selectmen, particularly Tim Dodd, who also championed the idea.

Dodd told the Community Advocate, “Growing up in Westborough, they didn’t call us ‘Snow Angels.’ Just the strong-backed neighborhood kids doing the right thing; it usually resulted in hot chocolate! It will be nice to see if we can get back to that kind of community again.”

So far, one resident has needed help and one resident has volunteered. Anyone interested in participating, or needing help, should call the selectmen’s office at 508-366-3030 or email selectmen@town.westborough.ma.us.
