Sophia Winsch Wins Lions State Peace Poster Contest!
GMS 7th Grader Moves On to International Contest!
Sophia Winsch, a 7th grade student at Gibbons Middle School in Westborough, has won the Massachusetts Lions State Peace Poster contest! The poster theme for the contest was 'Kindness Matters'. The posters were judged on that which best exemplified the theme, artistic merit, and originality. Sophia and her winning entry are seen in the photo above with Westborough Lions Peace Poster Chairperson, Susan Ash. Sophia will be honored at the District 33A Mid-Winter Convention on Saturday, February 9th, in Leominster, where she will receive an award.
Her poster now moves on to the Lions International Contest, where the winner will be chosen by February 1st. The International winner receives $5,000 and an award at a special ceremony held at the United Nations. An additional 23 Merit Award winners will be chosen, who will each receive $500 and a certificate of achievement.
Early in November, Sophia's poster was chosen as the winning entry at the Westborough Lions Peace Poster contest. Her poster was then entered into the Lions District 33A contest, where Sophia's entry was chosen best amongst all of the many entries received from Lions Clubs in central Massachusetts. Her poster then competed against the winning entries from the other 4 Lions Districts in Massachusetts: Y-N-K-S. Again, Sophia's poster was judged best in exemplifying the theme, artistic merit, and originality.
