Sound the Bell: School Board Candidates Needed

The Westborough School Committee's newest member will be appointed in late September, Selectmen Chairman Ian Johnson said Tuesday night.

Advertising for candidates to serve until the spring 2014 annual town election will occur this week, Johnson said.

The two boards will interview the candidates at their first meeting in September, and then jointly appoint one at a meeting two weeks later, he said.

Longtime Westborough School Committee member Bruce Tretter resigned in late June, citing a "conflict of interest" with his new job, school-related consulting. Tretter served 12 years.

Voters re-elected him to a three-year term, unopposed, at the March annual town election.

The remaining two years will be on the spring 2014 ballot.
