Special Westborough Town Meeting: What's Up For A Vote
Senior tax relief, library renovation, a new town seal, liquor sale rules and changes to the plastics bylaw are all on the table.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough Town Meeting will convene Monday night for a special meeting with lots on the warrant.
Members will vote on 30 articles covering everything from a possible new town seal to much smaller items, like accepting a few thousand dollars from the state's rideshare tax.

Article 6: The town needs to increase the school district's budget by over $600,000 due to the "unprecedented" nine students who needed to be placed in education programs outside Westborough. State law allows special education students to be moved out of district if necessary.
Article 12: This will appropriate $357,000 to replace a nearly decade-old ambulance, one of four operated by the fire department.

Article 15: Sets aside $550,000 to reduce PFAS levels in the local water supply. Two town wells that are offline have in recent years tested for PFAS levels above the state safety threshold of 20 parts per trillion.
Article 15: An affirmative vote would allow the town to borrow over $36 million to renovate and expand the library, but also accept a $9 million state grant toward the project.
Articles 21, 22 and 23: Article 21 accepts a review committee's report on the town seal; Article 22 would replace the current seal with one dating to 1913; and Article 23 would establish a new town seal committee — but only if Article 22 fails.
Article 24: Accepts a state law allowing licenses that would allow town establishments to sell alcohol between 10 a.m. and noon on Sundays.
Article 26: Grants the Select Board the power to ask the state Legislature to allow Westborough to offer new property tax breaks to senior citizens.
Article 29: Makes some changes to the plastic reduction bylaw, including a new section requiring stores to offer biodegradable containers and utensils for takeout food.
