Local Trainer Shares 3 Westborough Winter Workouts
Carol Thompson says to head outdoors to work off the holiday pounds.
Local Certified Fitness Instructor Carol Thompson thinks there is no place like Westborough to control those creeping holiday pounds. Thompson has a two-pronged attack.
First she said, "I never wear pants with an elastic waistband to a holiday meal. I taste everything, but eat lots of vegetables."
Second, everyday, especially after Thanksgiving, she hits the town to workout.

"Luckily," said Thompson, "Westborough has a variety of facilities, so finding a place for good exercise is easy."

Cross Country Skiing at the Westborough Country Club (WCC): "Once it snows, grab your skis and drive over to the course. It's a beautiful place to workout," Thompson said.
According to the WCC pro Jack Negoshian, "The town covers the greens and puts up snow fences, so it's fine to cross country ski here."
He recommended starting on hole 8 (to the far right if you are facing the course) and following holes 2, 3, 4, 5 and down 6. Here is a map of the course if you want to study up before you hit the links.
Ice Skating on Mill Pond: Thompson said her favorite way to get to Mill Pond is on her cross-country skis from the "tennis court" entrance on West Main Street, also known as the entrance to Veterans' Freedom Park. It is a healthy trek down to Mill Pond with beautiful scenery.
"Once I see the ice houses, I know it's safe to skate but make sure that the ice is really frozen. I love to skate from ice house to ice house so I can check out the catch and release fishing," Thompson added.
Snow Shoeing in Your Neighborhood: After a snow fall and before the streets are plowed, Thompson recommended that you gather up your neighbors and hit the roads. This is a great workout, she said, especially if you live in a hilly area of Westborough.
So don't wait for anything other than the snow. Westborough winter workouts are thrilling!
