Two Veterans, Hastings Teacher Lost in Past Week

Betty Ann Dewhurst, 76, of Westborough, passed away on Feb. 14. She was the wife of the late Dwight Dewhurst. She was a teacher at Hastings Elementary School before retiring in 1996. She is survived by five children, two brothers and 16 grandchildren. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Milford. Burial will be in VA National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., are Monday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.

William A. Murphy, 73, of Westborough, passed away Feb. 14. During the Korean War, he served with the US Navy. Murphy was employed as a fire inspector at Harvard University in Cambridge for over 30 years. He is survived by daughter Erin Murphy and her husband, Keith Baldinger, of Shrewsbury; son Steven Murphy and his wife, Debra, of Westborough; son Ryan Murphy of Northbridge; two grandchildren, four brothers and seven sisters. A graveside funeral service with military honors was held in the Veterans Grove Section of Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to any Veterans organization.

Robert G. Pond, 95, of Westborough, passed away Feb. 16. He was the husband of the late Winifred (O’Neil) Pond. During WW II, he served with the US Marine Corps. He is survived by six sons, six daughters, one sister, 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His funeral Mass will be on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home are Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Luke the Evangelist Church Memorial Fund.
