Westborough Earth Day Cleanup a Record Success
Three Hundred Volunteers Spruce Up the Town and Enjoy a Volunteer Picnic
If Westborough has seemed cleaner and more beautiful to you since Saturday, April 21, 2018, it isn’t your imagination. On that day, the 21st annual Earth Day Litter Cleanup sponsored by the Westborough Community Land Trust brought out a record-breaking 300 wonderful folks who cleaned up hundreds of bags of litter on the roads and trails throughout town. They then enjoyed our second annual Earth Day Volunteer Picnic at the Bay State Commons Green in lovely weather!
WCLT thanks the many individuals and families who made time in their busy lives to help with this extremely successful effort. And we would like to recognize the following organizations and businesses that sent cleanup teams: Westborough Civic Club; Westborough Rotary Club; Hastings, Fales, Armstrong, and Mill Pond Schools; Westborough Lacrosse and Youth Soccer; Explorer Post 85; CCR Wealth Management; Crossfit Prototype; E.L. Harvey; EMSEAL; and several Cub, Boy, and Girl Scout troops. We would also like to thank the businesses who made food donations for the picnic: Arturo’s Ristorante, Tavolino Italian Gourmet, Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 9, Roche Bros., and both Westborough Stop & Shop stores. Thank you to Mugford’s Flower Shoppe for providing bouquets to the volunteers. And finally, thank you to the Westborough Department of Public Works for donating the trash bags and collecting the full ones.
This day was not only productive but also lots of fun, as neighbors met neighbors and everyone worked together to beautify our town. If you missed it this year, please join us next year. Also remember that you can clean up your favorite walking area any day of the year, and please don’t litter!
