The Westborough Lions Club is hosting its annual Youth Speech Contest for Westborough High School students on Tuesday, December 1st, at 7 p.m. at The Willows Auditorium, 1 Lyman St., Westborough. All high school students living in Westborough are eligible to participate. This year's topic is: The Book that Most Affected Me Was....Each participant will give a 5-8 minute speech on the topic. At the local level, students may read directly from their manuscripts. Each speech will be evaluated by three independent judges on Delivery, Effectiveness, and Text. The winner will move to the District 33A Lions, Region 1 Contest in January. There are four levels of competition, culminating at the State level, with monetary prizes along the way. It is a great way to practice and hone public speaking skills. Participation also adds a flourish to a student's college resume.
To register for the contest, simply send an email to westboroughlionsclub@gmail.com with your name and grade by Friday, November 13th. Draft speeches are due Monday, November 23rd.
