Westborough Man Organizes Annual 'Skating for Hope'

Dave McGrath, who is from Westborough, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor during his senior year at St. John’s. With six rounds of chemotherapy, he beat it, and is still cancer-free at age 40, reported the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Working at Hope Lodge in Worcester, which provides housing and support for people getting cancer treatment in Massachusetts, McGrath also organizes Skating for Hope. Now celebrating the fourth annual, Skating for Hope happens on Friday, Sept. 19, through Saturday, Sept. 20, at the College of the Holy Cross.

According to the Skating for Hope Facebook page, here are some of the scheduled events:

Friday, Sept. 19

5:00 – 7:00 PM – Open Skating, Skate with the Holy Cross Men’s Hockey Team

6:00 PM - Skating with Finz

6:30 PM - Juno’s Place Visit

6:45 - 7:00PM - Opening Ceremonies, Survivor Recognition, National Anthem

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM – College Alumni Game (Including Holy Cross, Boston College and Boston University Alum)

8:00 – 10:00 PM – Open Skating, Howly Gringo Student Band Performance

10:00 – 11:00 PM – Saint John’s High Alum vs. Westboro High Alum Game

11:00 – 12:00 AM – Open Skating (From 11:00PM - 6:00AM requires a parent or guardian for anyone 16 and under...thank you!)

Saturday, Sept. 20

12:00 AM – 2:00AM - Slap Shot Viewing (THIS MOVIE IS RATED R for strong language, brief nudity, and violence - you’ve been warned!)
