Westborough Manufacturer Wins State Tax Credit To Support Growth, Create New Jobs

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A Westborough technology manufacturer has been selected for a state tax incentive to support business expansion and job creation.

Kopin Corporation was among the projects the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council approved Wednesday through the Economic Development Incentive Program. The state awarded a combined $11.5 million in tax credits for projects expected to create 674 jobs, according to the Executive Office of Economic Development.

The state’s announcement did not specify how many of the 674 jobs Kopin Corporation would create.

Kopin, which is headquartered at 125 North Dr., develops microdisplays and optical systems for defense, industrial, medical, consumer, and other uses, according to the company’s filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Kopin announced earlier this year that it had purchased equipment to establish full-scale OLED microdisplay production at its Westborough headquarters. The company said the investment was intended to address demand for domestically produced displays used in defense applications.

The Economic Development Incentive Program offers state tax credits to companies that commit to creating jobs, retaining workers and making private investments in Massachusetts. The coordinating council reviews and approves projects for the program.
