On October 25, the Rotary Club of Westborough invites members of the community to honor its founding President, Nelson P. Ball, and celebrate our 50 years of service with “A Night at the Casino” – an evening gala to be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westborough. The event will feature casino tables, live and silent auctions, great food and drink, and special guest master of ceremonies Dave Andelman of the Phantom Gourmet.

Auction items include two round trip airline tickets for travel anywhere in North America, Central America or the Caribbean, weekend getaways to Vermont and Martha’s Vineyard, Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins tickets, theater tickets, wine tastings with dinner, a dazzling array of gift baskets and much more.

Proceeds from the gala and our sponsors help fund the many charitable causes supported by the Rotary Club of Westborough. In addition to its longtime traditions of providing student scholarships, lighting the downtown during the holiday season and giving to community organizations, this year the Westborough Rotary Club is sponsoring a series of health education programs in the community for youth, parents and trusted caregivers. Working with Westborough Connects, Youth & Family Services and the Westborough Public Schools, these programs are designed to educate, inform and provide resources about a variety of important topics including vaping, stress management and substance use disorders.

To address the effects of climate change, pollution and other significant environmental issues on a global scale, Rotary International has established an Environmental Sustainability Action Group. Following their lead, the Westborough Rotary Club recently formed a Committee on the Environment to work with other town organizations to promote education and action. Our committee members are passionate about our planet, and several programs are now in the planning stages to address these issues here in Westborough and beyond.

Finally, the Westborough Rotary Club operates by Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self”. To this end, we, along with members of other local Rotary Clubs, undertook several international projects this year. These included the installation of more than 100 stoves for families in Guatemala to reduce the onset of disease caused by open fire smoke inhalation, training of medical personnel and emergency responders, and through the generosity of our founding President Nelson Ball, the purchase of an ambulance. Projects like these help build bridges and promote peace throughout the world.
